In November, 1959 the Huon Council gave
permission to the Scout & Guide Associations in Huonville to
build a hall on the Huonville Recreation Ground, for the use of the Association
only for the Scouts, Guides, Cubs & Brownies already formed in Huonville
& for Rover Scouts & Ranger Guides if formed later.
The Council also agreed to allow the Association
to run stalls & provide afternoon tea for the opening of the Huonville
Bridge on the 29th November. The funds raised helped finance the project.
130
pounds was raised.
Willing helpers are doing a great service for the boy scout and girl guide
movements in the Huon Valley. Each weekend sees volunteer workers, on on the
shift system, erecting a spacious building on the Huonville oval for scout and
guide activities in the district. Funds have been raised by both organisations,
and members have helped in the erection of the building, which is expected to be
ready by February.
Members of five Apex clubs, Moonah, Lindisfarne, New Norfolk, Hobart, and
Huonville, lent a hand at Huonville on Saturday to a local project to build a big scout and guide
hall. They put on the roof and most of the sides during the day. The treasurer (Miss
B. Francombe, who is also divisional commissioner of guides for the Huon) reported that
generous donations and voluntary labour had advanced the project to its present
stage in just over a year for an outlay of only £578. Donations made recently by Hobart firms
dealing in Huonville had enabled the roof and walls to be proceeded with on Saturday.
